MARKLEVILLE — Markleville Town Council President Daniel Roseberry said the town hopes expanding the council’s meeting schedule will spark more interest and input from the community — particularly since there are some important decisions on the horizon.

Roseberry said a rate study to increase fees for sewer service is underway.

“We’re not quite ready to do an ordinance yet, but we want to have as much input from the community as possible,” Roseberry said.

In January, the council voted to have two meetings per month instead of one, which has long been the standard.

Roseberry said the council will meet at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays each month.

While both meetings will be open to the public, Roseberry said most business will be conducted during the first meeting, along with department reports; the second meeting will be primarily for public discussion.

There may be times, he added, that the second meeting will involve issues that will require a vote and the presence of the town attorney.

Council members Roseberry, Matthew Gustin and Bob Fesmire voted in December to begin the rate study for increased sewer fees. The fees have remained the same ($31) for more than 30 years, according to council members.

“We want residents to contact their councilman as much as possible during the study, even if it’s outside the meetings,” Roseberry said.

The next regular meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the town hall, 8 S. State St., Markleville.
