Bulldog girls tennis blanks Raiders

MIDDLETOWN — The Lapel tennis team steamrolled the Shenandoah Raiders Tuesday as they picked up their third team win in a row.

Led by junior Maddie Shannon at No. 1 singles, the Bulldogs blanked Shenandoah 5-0.

Shannon dominated Alex Canaday by a 6-1, 6-1 score to improve to 8-2 on the season. Fellow junior Lauren Benagh also picked up an easy win at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Letha Wilson.

Senior Hannah Chinn was the only Lapel player who was pushed to a third set by the Raiders. Chinn knocked off Josie Canaday 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 in the No. 3 singles match to complete the singles sweep for Lapel.

The Bulldog doubles teams each won convincing matches.

Senior Emma Bush and junior Tonya Riffey beat Morgan and Madison House 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles match while sophomore Emily Eppert and junior Alyssa Whaley nearly blanked Abby Carter and Josie Stanley in the No. 2 match, collecting a 6-0, 6-1 win.
