PENDLETON — Long relief outings are not the norm in high school softball. On Thursday, Arabian sophomore Amanda White picked the right time to have her best pitching performance of the season.

White pitched over seven shutout innings of relief, and Pendleton Heights rallied to tie the game in the seventh and won it in the 10th, as the Arabians picked up their third straight win, 6-5 against Wapahani.

White entered the game in the third with the Arabians already trailing 5-1. From there, she slammed the door on the Raiders, scattering seven hits and a walk while striking out three. The biggest number for White was runs. She gave up zero, which allowed her and her teammates to chip away at the Wapahani lead.

After scoring single runs in the third and the fifth to get close, Pendleton Heights (16-7) struck for two in the seventh to tie things up. Junior Kelsey Sturgeon singled in one run, and junior Olivia Conner drove in the tying run with a grounder, to force extra innings.

Junior Hannah Buchanan, who pitched all 10 innings for Wapahani (10-11), and White continued their duel into extra innings, each escaping jams to keep the game going.

Until the 10th, when the Arabians leading run-scorer and leading run-producer combined to clinch the victory.

Junior Lauren Landes led off the inning with a single. After a passed ball and a groundout moved her to third, senior Ashley lifted a fly ball deep enough to allow the speedy Landes to score the game winner for the Arabians.

Landes, who had three hits in the game, now leads the Arabians with 30 runs scored, while King has the team RBI lead with 26.
