Lapel cross country teams open with runner up finishes

LAPEL–Lapel High School hosted the Aaron Stephenson cross country invitational Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldog teams placed second in both the boys’ and girls’ races while claiming first place individually in each.
Junior Kara Lutz won the girls’ race and sophomore Luke Combs won the boys’ race to give Lapel the sweep.
In the team competition, the girls lost out to Frankton by just three points while Eastbrook claimed the boys’ side of things, edging Lapel by six points.
Lutz finished her race in 22:58.28, beating out Abby Hartley of Frankton by nearly 37 seconds.
Junior Noelle Loller, the defending champion, came home in fourth for the Bulldogs while junior Paige Rich finished 10th and senior Keara Shelton was 12th.
Combs also won comfortably, running his race in a time of 16:58.06, over 33 seconds ahead of Connor White from Eastbrook.
Sophomore Jesse McCurdy was fourth, junior Jakob Addington was eighth, and sophomore Carson Huber placed ninth for Lapel.
