ANDERSON — Pendleton Heights and Lapel came away with second- and third-place finishes in the 2018 Nick Muller Tournament.

The Arabians fell 1-0 to Elwood on Friday, April 13, in the championship game, after wins against Anderson Preparatory Academy, 15-1, and Lapel, 18-7.

Lapel and Pendleton Heights faced each other in their second game of the tournament, after Lapel had a big win of its own, 16-0, against Frankton.

Neither the Arabians nor the Bulldogs scored in the first inning; Lapel scored one in the second.

Then Pendleton Heights scored two in the third inning and went on a tear from that point on.

Lapel could not muster much on offense, and Pendleton Heights took advantage of the offensive drought.

Despite four strikeouts by Lapel’s senior pitcher Devan Frank, the most strikeouts of anyone in the game, Pendleton Heights went on to score six runs in the fourth and 10 runs in the fifth.

With a score of 18-7 after five runs by Lapel in the fifth, an 11-point deficit was too much for Lapel to overcome and Pendleton Heights advanced.

Pendleton Heights went on to the championship game, and Lapel squeaked by Anderson 7-6, for third place.
