Boys track finishes first at HHC meet, Lady Arabians place second heading into Pendleton Heights Sectional

FORTVILLE — Pendleton Heights’ boys track team finished first in the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet Thursday, May 10, at Mt.Vernon High School.

The Arabians won eight events and beat second-place Greenfield-Central 171.5 to 96.

They took the top two places in the 200-meter dash, the 800-meter run, and the 1,600-meter run, with a handful of third-place finishes.

The Arabians got off to a great start in the 4×800, in which the team of Jayden Wenning, Peyton Burmeister, Caleb Martin and Cole Buck brought home a second-place finish.

In the 100 dash, Connor Jamison captured the HHC title and got second-place in the 200. Matt Sakeuh had a big night, bringing home HHC titles in the 110 and 300 hurdles and a third-place in the long jump.

Eli Pancol also had a big night, winning HHC titles in the 200 and setting a new meet record in the high jump at 6-feet-8 while finishing third in the 400 run.

Seth Ledford nabbed third place in the 110 hurdles.

In the 800 run, Luke Upton held off teammate Milan Jones. Both ran under the meet record time of 1:56.81 set by Arabian Parker Jones in 2017. Upton ran a 1:55.40, and Milan Jones ran a 1:55.57. This was after they both ran the 1,600, during which Upton won in 4:22.91 and Jones finished second at 4:28.34.

In the 3,200, Martin and Sean Roan captured third and fourth place despite battling injuries.

In the discus throw, Andrew Harvey placed third.

The Arabians ended the night with a record-breaking performance in the 4x400m. The team of Sakeuh, Upton, Pancol and Jones ran to a conference record of 3:24.60.

Earlier in the week, the boys track team competed Tuesday, May 8, at the Noblesville relays and finished second with 98 points behind Carmel High School, which garnered 114 points.

The Arabians had a strong night including in the 4×1,600 relay of where Upton, Jones, Caleb Harrington and Martin placed second. The distance medley relay team of Upton, Buck, Wenning and Jones ran to another second-place finish. The 4×400 relay of Sakeuh, Upton, Pancol and Jones ran to a third-place finish against some of the state’s elite teams.

The Arabians had a record-setting performance track in the 4×200. The 4×200 relay of team of Sakeuh, Ethan Schitter, Jamison and Pancol ran a 1:33.04 time breaking the old record of 1:34.17 that Sean Brady, Austin Coffel, John Furrow and Jordan McCool set in 2012.

In field events, the Sakeuh and Schitter duo finished second in the long jump for the Arabians. In the high jump, the team of Pancol and Nate Spencer won first.

Girls

The Pendleton Heights High School girl track team was set to compete at the Pendleton Heights Sectional Tuesday, May 15. (The meet was not finished by press time. See next week’s Times-Post for the sectional results.)

The Arabians came in second at the Hoosier Heritage Conference Championships Tuesday, May 8.

New Palestine scored in every event with exception of the 100m hurdles and ended with a total 143.5, earning its second-straight HHC title.

Pendleton Heights finished with 95 points.

In the 4×800, Arabians Sarah Dudley, Maddie McKee, Kylah Stout and Madison Brunnermer started off the meet with a fourth-place finish.

In the 100 dash, Devyn Byars placed eighth, a position matched by Anna Smith in the 200.

In the 400 run, Smith placed fifth, and Kate Cowger placed eighth.

In the 800 run, Christina Magers placed fourth, and McKee placed seventh.

In the 1,600, Magers finished first, and Syd Parker placed seventh.

In the 3,200, Parker placed fourth.

Patience Sakeuh placed first in the 100 hurdles; Marisa Marshall placed third.

In the 300 hurdles, Sakeuh placed second, and Marshall placed third.

The 4×100 relay team of Byars, Marshall, Sarah Dix and Sakeuh finished second.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Cowger, Dudley, Magers and Smith placed fourth.

In high jump, Marshall placed second. In long jump, Sakeuh placed third, and Byars placed eighth.

In the discus throw, McKenzie Shoaf placed seventh.
