Lapel High School baseball loses sectional crown to rival Frankton

FRANKTON — The Lapel High School baseball team made it to the championship round of the the IHSAA Class 2A Sectional 40 game on Monday, May 28, where they lost a tough one 4-2 to rival Frankton High School.

Lapel jumped out to a quick lead getting two runs in the first inning, but the Eagles got one back in the bottom of the first then added one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings en route to the win.

Mason Gilley had two of the Bulldogs four hits in the game, while Connor Gill and Satchell Wilson scored the two Bulldogs runs in the first inning.

Landon Weins picked up the win for the Eagles pitching staff going six innings, keeping the bats under wraps, striking out 11 Bulldogs.

Gill got the loss for the Bulldogs giving up six hits and three runs over 3.1 innings pitched while striking out seven Eagles batters.

Lapel got to the championship game by beating Wapahani in a low-scoring affair in Round 2 sectional action.

Both teams were strong on the hill Thursday, May 24, but Lapel defeated Wapahani 3-1. Cameron Holycross allowed just three hits to Wapahani.

Holycross was the winning pitcher for Lapel. He allowed three hits and one run across seven innings, striking out 12.

Chandler Wise took the loss for Wapahani. He went six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out eight.

Gilley, Levi Frazier, Satchell Wilson, and Holycross each managed one hit.
