Woman struck, killed by train

INGALLS — A 30-year-old Indianapolis woman was killed Wednesday night after she was struck by a train just north of the intersection of State Road 67 and Alfonte Street in Ingalls.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, evidence at the scene and witness statements show Amber Louise Kates, who was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile, was hit by a train after “she drove around the railroad crossing arm and got her vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks.

“Witnesses also state the female got out of her vehicle to avoid being struck by the train. The train struck the female and her vehicle.”

The train tracks run parallel to State Road 67.

The call came in to the the Madison County Crash Team at about 8:52 p.m.

The investigation continued on Thursday.
