Woman struck, killed by train

INGALLS — A 30-year-old Indianapolis woman was killed June 13 after she was struck by a train near the intersection of State Road 67 and Alfonte Street in Ingalls.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, evidence at the scene and witness statements show Amber Louise Kates was struck by a train after “she drove around the railroad crossing arm and got her vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks.

“Witnesses also state the female got out of her vehicle to avoid being struck by the train.

The train struck Kates and her vehicle.”

The call came in to the Madison County Crash Team at about 8:52 p.m.

The car Kates was driving was a teal 2003 Oldsmobile.

The investigation into the crash continues.
