LAPEL — Standing straight with right arms raised in salutes, a group of area boys learned lessons about patriotism on Flag Day recently.

Boy Scout Troop 361 members took part in a special flag burning ceremony for torn and worn American flags that were beyond repair.

Activities took place June 15 at Lapel American Legion Post 212.

“These boys have a passion for our national colors,” Scoutmaster Thomas Burgess said.

The scouts teamed up with Legion members who were in need of help retiring the flags.

“The is a big demand that is unknown to the public,” Burgess said.

The scouts spent more than two hours processing 50 flags in a ceremony that included inspections and drill calls.

Participating scouts included senior patrol leader Connor Krompack, quartermaster Dillon Kroening and members Dolan Roberts, Kaleb Lebl and Corbin Burger.
