Fourth of July event offers entertainment

PENDLETON — The sixth annual Fourth at the Falls celebration will offer a range of activities for visitors, including a parade, live music and a fireworks display.

Parade check-in begins at 3 p.m. for emergency and municipal services, followed by registration for all other entries at 3:15 p.m. The parade begins at 4 p.m.

The Fourth at the Falls festival begins in Falls Park at 5 p.m.

Live music includes performances by the Booze Hounds (5:30 to 6:30 p.m.), Cliff Ritchey (7 to 8 p.m.) and The Walker Band (8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Fireworks are set to begin at 10 p.m.

‘Friends’ to sell ducks at Fourth event, after

PENDLETON — Friends of the Pendleton Community Public Library will be at the Fourth at the Falls event in Falls Park in Pendleton, registering entries for the fifth annual Lucky Duck Race.

People can adopt a rubber duck for $5.

The Lucky Duck Race is set for Sept. 8 during the Pendleton Heritage Fair.

After July 4, ducks will be available for adoption at the library and other sponsor and community events.

The Friends group has completed its sponsor quest having engaged 50 sponsors at the $100 Gold level.

Proceeds support programs at the library.

Art society has many offerings

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans several upcoming art classes as well as an expanded art camp this summer at Gallery 119 in Pendleton:

• Oil painting with Gini Deaton — 2 to 6 p.m. July 8. The subject will be a Bill Bayer design titled “Silent Sentinel.” Participants will paint this seascape with a lighthouse using a wet-on-wet technique. All supplies, including paint, brushes and canvas will be supplied. There will be a step-by-step demonstration on a large screen with individual coaching. All levels of painters are welcome. The cost for the class is $75.

• Oil painting with Katie Burke — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 (with a break for lunch). Participants will paint bluebirds on a stump with dogwoods. For students using their own paints and brushes, the cost for the class is $45. If supplies are provided, the cost will be $55.

• Kids Art Camp at PAS — Pendleton Artists Society is accepting registrations for its Kids Art Camp. Children can learn and create art projects using a variety of media.

The classes will take place from July 16 to 20 and cost $50 per child. Cost for each additional immediate sibling is $45. Students ages 6 to 12 may register for either morning or afternoon classes.

The morning class is from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and the afternoon class is from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Children 13 and older may register for the 5:30 to 8 p.m. class.

• New this year will be a metalsmithing and enameling workshop for ages 13 and older.

The class will make copper boxes with a focus on stamping, texturing, piercing with a jewelry saw, stone setting, wire wrapping and lacing, and enameling with powdered glass and kiln.

Participants will design their own style. All tools and supplies will be furnished. This class is scheduled from 5:30 to 8 p.m. July 16 to 20 and will be limited to 12 students.

A special program is set for Friday, July 20, during which all camp students will display their work done during the week.

A special guest professional enamelist will display works and talk about enameling.

Cost for the camp is $50 per child aand $45 for each additional sibling.

The gallery is located at 119 W. State St.

Daybreak church to show film

LAPEL — Daybreak Community Church plans a movie night beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 8.

The movie is “I Can Only Imagine.”

The church is located at 1219 N. Main Court, Lapel.

There is no charge to attend.

Concessions will be sold.

Abundance meal set for July 11

MARKLEVILLE — Christian Women’s Fellowship Comfort Keepers of the East Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Markleville plans its God Abundance Meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11.

The meal is set for the lower fellowship hall of the church, and the menu includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, rolls, assorted desserts and drink.

A free-will offering will be accepted.

The church is located at 124 E. Main St. and is accessible to people with disabilities.

There will be carryout available. Shut-ins and small businesses in the immediate area that would like carry-out delivered can call the church at 765-533-4996 on the day of the meal or Diane at 765-533-2330 ASAP.

The next abundance meal is set for Aug. 8.

Rad’s 5K coming up at Lapel High School

LAPEL — The Lapel Lions Club will play host to Rad’s Run and Roar at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Lapel High School.

This is a 5K that people can run or walk. All ages are welcome.

Rad’s Run and Roar is a memorial event for Conrad Hersberger, a lifelong resident of Lapel who lived with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) until his death in 2016.

Proceeds will benefit the CdLS Foundation.

Registration costs $20. T-shirts are available for $10.

Registration forms are available at the Lapel Post Office and Ice Cream Plus.

Race day registration begins at 8 a.m.

5K run/walk to help cancer cause

PENDLETON — The INCourage 5K and Kids Color Run/Walk is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Falls Park.

INCourage is a non-profit organization designed to provide financial support and build awareness for families in the community affected by childhood cancer.

The 5K run/walk course will start in Falls Park and proceed through trails along Fall Creek. There also will be a shorter children’s color run/walk for people 12 and younger.

Cost for the event ranges from $10 for the children’s color run to $30 for the 5K.

Swim lessons planned for Brown pool

PENDLETON — The DiveIn! 2 Swim: Every Child Can Swim Initiative is planned for this summer at Alvin D. Brown Memorial Swimming Pool in Pendleton.

Children 4 and older who live in Fall Creek, Green, Adams or Stonybrook townships and whose families cannot afford to pay for lessons are eligible for free lessons with certified instructors this summer at the pool in Pendleton.

Lessons are one hour per day — 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. — for one week, Monday to Friday.

The program is funded through community donations from individuals, businesses and organizations, such as the Open Heart Open Purses program at South Madison Community Foundation.
