Local swimmers making their mark

PENDLETON — Three female swimmers from Pendleton Swim Club had a successful Age Group Long Course Championship meet at the IUPUI natatorium this weekend.

Lily Brooks, 14, beat her own club records by placing 11th in the 100-meter backstroke (1:10.50) and 23rd in the 200 backstroke (2:36.89).

Grace McKinney, 14, beat her own club record by placing 34th in the 200 breaststroke (3:02.41).

Mallory Gentry, 12, swam many personal best times and beat most of her club records by placing 17th in the 100 freestyle (1:06.37), 25th in in the 400 freestyle (5:14.54), 13th in the 100 backstroke (1:17.02), eighth in the 50 freestyle (29.64), 11th in the 200 freestyle (2:21.06), and 11th in the 50 backstroke (34.95).

Brooks and Gentry advance to the regional Central Zone meet representing Team Indiana set for Thursday, Aug. 2, through Sunday, Aug. 5, in Geneva, Ohio.

The Central Zone is comprised of swimming organizations in several states, including Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Brooks qualified to swim in the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke. Gentry qualified to swim in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle and the 50 backstroke.

Pendleton Swim Club is an organization for competitive youth swimmers ages 5 to 18 competing at local, state and national meets throughout the year.
