PENDLETON — It’s been a busy week of golf for the Pendleton Heights Arabians.

They played three matches, including taking part in the Lapel Bulldog Invitational Saturday, Aug. 11, at Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson.

Pendleton Heights was one of 18 teams competing and placed sixth (see Lapel golf story for details).

Earlier in the week, the Arabians came in second against Hamilton Heights and Tipton, with a 195 team total.

“Wow, is Bear Slide tough with all the heather,” coach Hilary Slick said, referring to an abundance of the ball-trapping shrubbery. “The heather is something our girls are not used to, and it cost us some strokes tonight.”

Pendleton Heights’ low medalist was junior Danielle Tinsley with a 46, followed by sophomore Ryann Norris, 48, and freshmen Kaylee McKenney and Grace Wiggins, with 49 and 52, respectively, rounding out the top four scores. The team total was 195.

Senior Courtney Dawson added a 54, and sophomore Aubrey Fisher shot a 71 in her first round in a match.

“I was very pleased with how Aubrey played this evening,” Slick said. “She has been working hard on her swing, and coming from a softball background it has been a challenge. She has improved with every practice and now, with one real match under her belt, I expect she will get even better.”

Prior to that match was a close one, but the Arabians came out on top on the road at Shelbyville.

Pendleton Heights took on Shelbyville Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Bear Chase Golf Course in Shelbyville.

The Arabians won a hard-fought match 206-211.

Pendleton Heights didn’t play as well as it had anticipated, Slick said, but it still came away with a Hoosier Heritage Conference win.

Medalists for the team were Tinsley and Norris, both of whom shot 49s. Dawson added a 51, and McKenney shot a 57.
