PENDLETON — The Pendleton Heights girls soccer team was on the road Monday, Aug. 20, to take on a competitive Lawrence North team. The match ended in a 0-0 tie.

Megan Mills got the start in goal and held the Wildcats scoreless with 11 saves.

Pendleton Heights had several players out because of injury or sickness, requiring other players to step up to fill key positions.

“I’m proud of our effort,” coach Mark Davy said. “Sure, there are some things we need to clean up, but to be able to compete the way we did tonight, against a very physical team, there is reason to keep our heads held high.”

The Arabians also took to the road for a Saturday, Aug. 18, non-conference game against the University High School Trailblazers and came away with a 3-0 win.

Anna Childers, Helena Talbot and Macy Browning each scored a goal for the Arabians, while Talbot and Taylor Fort dished out assists.

“We faced lots of adversity today, starting slow and making some simple mistakes, but it showed a great deal of maturity and leadership on the girls’ part to notice, fix and overcome those adversities,” Davy said. “It’s all about growing as a team each day, each game, and I thought we got better today.”

The team opened its season Wednesday, Aug. 15, with a 10-2 home win against Pike. Scoring for the Arabians were Fort (3), Talbot (3), Megan Mills (2), Childers and Claire Fendel. Assists were delivered by Fort (3), Sarah Dix (2), Lexi Hill, Mills and Talbot.

“Winning isn’t easy. It takes lots of work day in and day out and being committed in the offseason, so you have to enjoy your victories,” Davy said. “We’ll take some positives from this game and continue to work to correct some of our mistakes.”

The Arabians’ boys soccer team was also in action Monday and came out of the gate fast against Burris Laboratory School, capturing a 6-0 win.

Ethan Schitter was able to score two quick goals. Schitter finished with a hat trick on the night. Other scorers for the Arabians included Maverick Hamilton and Mohammed Traore, both getting their first career goals.

Pendleton Heights was set to play Hoosier Heritage Conference opponent Greenfield-Central Tuesday (after press time).

Earlier in the week, the Arabians’ boys team faced Hamilton Heights and fell short by a score of 2-1.

Pendleton Heights started slowly and allowed Hamilton Heights to score twice in the first half. But the Arabians came out strong in the second half as Schitter found Abe Bohlsen for a goal.

The Arabians controlled the second half but couldn’t find another goal.
