Outfitters

PENDLETON — There might be no better time to draw a crowd to an event in Pendleton than right after the Fall Festival and Heritage Fair.

At least that’s the rationale for scheduling the Outfitters Block Party to follow those events at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.

It’s the first time Outfitters — a non-profit organization that provides quality new and gently used clothing free of charge to economically disadvantaged children in South Madison County — has arranged to have one of its largest fundraisers of the year on the same day as two other big town events, Executive Director Niki Brown said.

“The Fall Festival is always a popular event, and the block party always brings a lot of people downtown as well,” said Brown, who said it seemed like a good way for all groups to draw even more people out.

The block party offers activities for children and adults, including a KidZone with bounce houses, slide, obstacle course and games, as well as a beer garden, live music on stage and a fireworks show.

New this year will be a teen games area, where tickets can be won and then redeemed for prizes.

There also will be a fashion show, where clothing available at Outfitters will be modeled.

“I want the community members to see the amazing donations that come into the store,” Brown said. “I think our community should be really proud.”

A welcome is planned at 6 p.m., followed by the fashion show from 6:20 to 6:30; duet Kristi Kroker and Jacob Brown will perform after that, followed by The Flying Toasters.

Fireworks are set for 10:45 p.m.

The entry fee for the block party is $5 for people 4 and older, with 3 and younger free. The cost of games and prizes is included.
