PENDLETON — The South Madison Visual Arts exhibit is scheduled for Sept. 7 through Oct. 3 at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St., Pendleton.

There will be a public reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7.

Artists from Fall Creek, Stony Creek, Adams or Green townships were able to enter art through Wednesday at the gallery.

People had to be at least 21 to enter, and there was no entry fee.

The exhibit will be judged by Chicqiela Elbert-Velazco.

Elbert-Velazco lives in Alexandria. She taught art for 30 years at Anderson Community Schools Corp. and was a substitute art teacher until 2016.

She works in a variety of media, but her favorites are drawing, painting, printmaking and Lampwork beads. Her subjects are usually farm animals or people.

Many of her works have been in select juried shows and won awards such as the Hoosier Salon, Indianapolis Museum of Art, State Fair, Sheldon Swope Art Gallery, and the Minnetrista in Muncie.

Elbert-Velazco will present awards for Best In Show, Second Place and People’s Choice.

People will be able to see the exhibit at the gallery during regular business hours 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The exhibit is made possible through the South Madison Community Foundation Arts Fund, which was established by the children of Robert E. and Vinetta A. Wills, in honor of their mother Vinetta Aiman Wills. Tri Kappa plays host to the event.

The purpose of the fund is to recognize people with artistic talent through monetary reward and public recognition.
