Lapel Lions Club plans fish fry

LAPEL — The Lapel Lions Club’s 72nd annual all-you-can-eat fish fry is scheduled for 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13; Friday, Sept. 14; and Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Lions Club building, 329 S. Main St., Lapel.

Serving times will be 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. all three nights.

The price for an adult all-you-can-eat fish meal is $10.

There will also be children’s meals (not all-you-can-eat) available. Fish, tenderloin and hot dog sandwiches, desserts and choices of sides are also available.

Entertainment on Friday will be the Lapel High School Band performing at about 6 p.m.

Saturday’s entertainment is the 4-Leaf-Clovers at 5:30 p.m., J.T. Si Fuentes at 6:30 p.m. and the Lapel Show Choir making its debut for the 2018-19 school year at 7:30 p.m.

Drawings for door prizes will begin at 8 p.m.

Pain group ready to meet

PENDLETON — The Facial Pain Association Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at The Trinity Life Center, 5900 State Road 13 South, Pendleton.

Guest speaker Laurie Riffey will explain how essential oils are used and might help with TN pain and other ailments.

TN, a rare, painful condition of the trigeminal nerve, affects about 1 in every 25,000 people.

Although there is no cure for TN, there are various treatments, including surgery, that may help some patients.

Symptoms include sharp, stabbing and electrifying pain, usually on one side of the face.

Fundraiser to honor first responders

ANDERSON — Lil Miracles Pregnancy Resource Center, a non-profit agency in Anderson, is planning an Honor the Badge Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at Paramount Theatre Centre and Ballroom in Anderson.

There will be a luncheon and a concert by Kali Rose.

First responders, spouse and minor children (18 and younger) will receive a free lunch and free tickets to Rose’s concert.

Tickets cost $20 for people 10 and older, and $10 for children 9 and younger.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Lil Miracles and Honor the Badge.

Local blood donation drive planned

PENDLETON — American Red Cross has arranged for a blood donor site from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at First United Methodist Church, 225 W. State St., Pendleton.

Donors can make an appointment to donate by downloading the free American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visitingRedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-733-2767.

Through Sept. 30, donors of blood or platelets will receive a coupon via email for a free haircut at participating Sport Clips locations.

PHHS homecoming events coming up

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Heights High School Student Council is planning many activities in the days and hours before the Arabians’ Homecoming football game against Mt. Vernon, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

• On Tuesday, Sept. 18, the seventh annual faculty/student kickball game takes place at the softball field at 6 p.m.

• The Homecoming Extravaganza is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the football stadium. The event includes class competitions such as tug-of-war, football toss, relay race, and other board game-themed contests, followed by the annual Powder Puff football game between the junior and senior girls. Members of the football team will coach their female classmates, and male cheerleaders will cheer on their favorite team from the sidelines.

Admission to Extravaganza costs $4.

• On Friday, Sept.21, all units in the Homecoming Parade will gather east of the Community Building in Falls Park between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. All units should check in with Cori Hunckler, Homecoming Parade coordinator, for parade line-up and instructions. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and wind through the park to Pendleton Avenue, State Street and then to the high school football stadium.

Due to a time limit before the start of the football game, only select units will proceed around the track at about 6:45 p.m. People interested in being a part of the parade should contact Hunckler at [email protected] for an entry form. Forms are due Sept. 19.

Church conducts musical auditions

OVID — Ovid Community Church will conduct auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, for a musical production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”

Parts are available for both adults and children.

Auditions are set for Ovid Community Church in Room 200 (enter through the rear of the building).

Performance dates will be Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2.

‘Screenagers’ to be shown at library

PENDLETON — The documentary “Screenagers” will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.

“Screenagers” is an award-winning film that probes the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts messy struggles about social media, video games and academics. “Screenagers” explores the impact of screen technology on children and offers parents and families proven solutions that work.

Following the film, Stephanie Nancarrow from the Indiana State Police will lead a discussion on related topics.

Nancarrow worked at the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) as a family case manager for five years, specializing in sexual abuse cases during her later years.

She is now a youth educator with the Indiana State Police and ICAC Task Force educating youth on social media safety.

Jeep show set for Falls Park

PENDLETON — Indiana Jeepsters Jeep Show and Swap Meet is planned for Sept. 29 at Pendleton Falls Park.

Registration is set from 1 to 3 p.m. with awards at 5 p.m.

Awards will include Best of Show, dirtiest, best modded, best original, best modern 2000 and present, best ’90s and best CJ.

There will be food, drinks and music. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the show, and there will be a 50/50 raffle.

Entry fee is $15 on the day of the show.
