LAPEL — The Lapel Bulldogs got back on track with an important late-season win at home on Sept. 28, defeating Heritage Christian 35-14.

After jumping out to a 28-0 halftime lead, Lapel held the Eagles scoreless until the fourth quarter, when Heritage Christian mounted a late-game rally to score twice in the final quarter.

Four of the Bulldogs’ five trips to the end zone were in the air with senior Justin Engle catching two passes for points. Senior Connor Gill scored once, as did junior Charlie Prough.

Once again, junior quarterback Cole Alexander tallied more than 200 yards in the air with 273 yards on 15-25 completions.

Alexander is No. 10 in Indiana in total passing yards with 1,632 in seven games. He has a .537 completion rate and 18 touchdowns. Alexander also led the team against the Eagles in rushing, with 71 yards.

Junior Josiah Scott rushed for a touchdown for the Bulldogs, and senior Luke DesNoyers was a perfect 5-5 in PATs.

The Bulldog defense pressured the Eagles offense and nabbed five interceptions for the night. Sophomore Parker Allman pulled in two interceptions, while seniors Wyatt Allan and Jakob Addington and junior Max Stern had one apiece.

The Bulldogs (3-4) will mark their home season finale Friday, Oct. 5, against the Tri-Central Trojans. The game is also Senior Night honoring players and cheerleaders.

Tri-Central comes into the contest at 3-5 for the season and winless on the road. The Trojans have a balanced rushing game with two backs at 300 yards for the season and another with more than 200. At the helm is sophomore quarterback Mason Pickens, who has more than 300 yards passing and just five interceptions this season. His leading receiver, Deitric Johnson, also is a sophomore with a little more than 200 yards receiving.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.; seniors will be honored beforehand.
