Lapel’s Combs tops at sectional

PENDLETON — Both Pendleton Heights’ and Lapel’s boys cross country teams advanced to the regional with third- and fourth-place team finishes at the Pendleton Heights sectional Oct. 6.

The Arabians placed third, behind champion Fishers and only 10 points behind second-place Hamilton Southeastern.

Lapel was fourth, and the fifth and final team to advance was Frankton.

Lapel junior Luke Combs topped all runners for the individual sectional championship. His time of 16:24 was 33 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Ethan Meyer of Fishers. The time also was 20 seconds better than Combs’ Madison County title time.

Senior Milan Jones of Pendleton Heights was the No. 1 runner for the Arabians. He finished fourth with a time of 17:15.

Arabians senior Caleb Harrington and junior Sean Roan were 13th and 14th, respectively, while Lapel juniors Jesse McCurdy and Carson Huber were 26th and 27th, respectively.

Lapel and Pendleton Heights will compete in the Delta regional on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Muncie Sports Complex.
