MADISON COUNTY — Twin sisters Hanna and Abby Wilson, 11, are adding to their credentials as published poets and philanthropists.
Abby and Hanna co-wrote poems called “Little 500 Race” and “Racing Legend,” which were selected recently for inclusion in “Bards Against Hunger: An Anthology of Indiana Poets.”
The book is expected to be available on amazon.com with the proceeds going to help fight hunger.
The girls will take part in a book launch scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Elwood Public Library.

Abby and Hanna will be there to support the book and take part in some poetry reading.
“Little 500” is a poem about the Little 500 race run each year at Anderson Motor Speedway, and “Racing Legend” is a poem about former NASCAR driver Ken Schrader.
Their writings are not the first venture into sharing their written expressions. The girls wrote another poem — published in “Paw Prints In Verse,” a book of poems about pets — about their dog, Daisy.
Proceeds from that book, available on amazon.com, go to Ernie’s Heart Pet Food Pantry, which helps people with low incomes feed their pets.
The girls’ aunt, Nicole Winkler, also a writer, put the girls’ poems on her webpage, where she publishes her own work. On the website soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13227541, people can hear a song Winkler and the girls co-wrote.
The Wilson sisters and Winkler live in South Madison County, where the girls are home-schooled.
In addition to writing, the girls spend their spare time attending races at Anderson Speedway, writing poems and lyrics, as well as riding and racing BMX bikes, their aunt said.
Winkler also credited Steve Wallace, a Madison County songwriter, as an inspiration to Winkler and her nieces.
“He has helped us a lot with poetry and music,” Winkler said.
Two racing poems written sisters Abby and Hanna Wilson
“Little 500 Race”
33 Drivers 33 Cars
500 Grueling laps
on a High Banked
Quarter Mile. Only one
will win while 32 others
will have to try again.
They said such a race couldn’t be run
and now another
Little 500 is about to be run
Drivers and fans come from afar and
near just to take in this
500 lap race each year….
Written By Abby And Hanna Wilson
“Racing Legend”
Starting on the front row
getting ready to go
Winning is on his mind
With another win sure to come
he’s tough to beat no matter where he goes
He knows how to move and groove
and get to the front of the line
When the checkered flag flys..
