PHHS swimmers open the season under new coach

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School swimmers are in the water and leaving a wake already this season.

The girls varsity swimming and diving team traveled to Oak Hill High School Wednesday, Nov. 15, for its first meet under new head coach Mindy Hertzler and came away with a 105–81 win.

Pendleton Heights started the night strong, winning the opening 200-yard medley relay. Lily Brooks, Kaitlyn Wheetley, Emma Robison and Karly Riffey combined to finish in 1:56.62.

Grace McKinney scored a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle. McKinney won with a time of 2:04.46.

Emma Robison and Jaima Link kept the streak alive with a 1-2 finish in the 200 individual medley. Robison won with a time of 2:24.69, with Link coming in a few seconds later at 2:26.39.

Riffey ended the night with two individual wins in the 100 free (57.34) and 50 free (26.01).

In the 1-meter diving, the team was well represented by three freshman divers — Kelsey Ayres, Karrah Schroeder and Reannin Donati.

While the meet wasn’t close at the beginning, Oak Hill finished strong with five wins at the end, all of which were close finishes.

The Arabians are scheduled to face Muncie Central next at home at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27.
