Marauders upset Arabians conference streak

PENDLETON — Pendleton Height girls basketball put its 7-1 (4-0, Hoosier Heritage Conference) record on the line Saturday, Dec. 1, against conference foe Mt. Vernon in an afternoon showdown.

The Arabians couldn’t get their offense going against a tough Marauders defense and lost 48-35.

The first quarter was a defensive showdown and ended 8-6 with Mt. Vernon on top.

Then the Mauraders got hot and scored 15 points in the second quarter while holding Pendleton Heights to 5, leading 23-11 at the half.

The Arabians couldn’t get on track in the third quarter, scoring only six; they finally started hitting some shots in the fourth quarter, scoring 18, but it was too late.

Junior Megan Mills led Pendleton Heights with 9 points and six rebounds.

Earlier in the week, the Arabians jumped out to a big lead and were able to beat a solid Hamilton Heights (5-4) team at home.

Aubree Dwiggins led Pendleton Heights with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Kailyn Graham scored 14, and Mills added 8.

The Arabians team was in action Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Hamilton Southeastern. The game was not over by press time. Pendleton Heights is scheduled to face conference foe Delta at 7:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 6.

Bulldogs girls basketball was scheduled to play a home game vs. Madison-Grant (Fairmount) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4. The game was not over by press time.

The Bulldogs (5-2) lost a tough road game to Yorktown 42-30 on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Morgan Knepp led the Bulldogs with 8 points. Makynlee Taylor and Lily Daniels each added 7.
