Artists group offers painting classes, show

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans art classes regularly at Gallery 119 in Pendleton:

• Coffee and Paint with Diane Burrell — 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 14.

Participants will be encouraged to paint in their own style in acrylics. All level of painters are welcome.

Paints and brushes will be available for $10 per week for those who do not have their own. The cost is $15 per session.

• Oil Painting with Katy Burke — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dec. 5 (with a break for lunch). The painting will consist of a moonlit snow scene with redbirds. Class fee is $55 ($45 for people who bring their own brushes and paints).

Class is for all levels of painters.

• Oil painting with Gini Deaton — 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 9. Deaton will instruct how to paint “Dragonfly Lavender Dreams,” which will focus on a dragonfly with background. All materials are supplied for the painting. No drawing is required, and all levels of painters are welcome. Participants are asked to bring paper towels. Class fee is $55.

• Acrylic pour class with Brenda Jarrett — 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 16. Jarrett will teach how to do flip and drag pours with added techniques to make an 11-by-14-inch acrylic pour artwork. Supplies will be provided. For ages 12 and older. Class fee is $35.

• Watercolor Class with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 19 (with a break for lunch). Painting will be of a girl walking in the rain. Class will teach several techniques and how supplies are used. Class fee is $50 (supplies not included). Supply list may be found online at pendletonartistssociety.org or by contacting the gallery.

The gallery is located at 119 W. State St.

• Juried art show opens soon

The Pendleton Artists Society also plans to open its sixth annual juried art show on Friday, Dec 7.

There will be a reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m., where the public may meet the artists, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and vote for the People’s Choice Award.

The exhibit will close on Jan. 2. The gallery will be closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 1.

Quilt guild plans meeting, holiday party

PENDLETON — Spring Valley Quilt Guild will meet Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Mercer Family Barn, 1189 W. County Road 700S, Pendleton, for its holiday party and final meeting of 2018.

Participants are asked to bring a dish to share at the pitch-in.

Forest green will be the color of the month. Quilty rewards prizes will be awarded too.

There will be show and tell, and guests are welcome.

The guild meets monthly the first Wednesday each month except September. Regular meetings take place in the Community Room at Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.

Social time starts at 5:30p.m., and meetings begin at 6 p.m.

‘Friends’ ready for gingerbread contest

PENDLETON — The second annual Friends of the Pendleton Community Library Gingerbread Cottage Contest is scheduled to coincide with the library’s Holiday Open House on Sunday, Dec. 9.

Cost to enter is $10. Participants will receive a gingerbread recipe, building directions and pattern pieces. Participants who pay a $20 entry fee will receive a full decorating kit.

Registration for the contest lasts through Thursday, Dec. 6. All entries must be turned in at the library by Thursday, Dec. 6.

There once again will be local celebrity judges, and First Merchants Bank will be the presenting sponsor.

Best in Show honors will be presented in beginner, intermediate and advanced categories, and a People’s Choice category will be judged by visitors during the open house.

Historical museum plans Christmas open house

PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum plans its annual Christmas Open House for 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in Falls Park.

There will be fresh-popped popcorn, hot apple cider and holiday music performed live on dulcimers.

People also will have the chance to decorate cookies and mingle with others, and take pictures of their children with Santa.

The museum’s regular hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Choir to ‘Sing and Shout’ in annual cantata

LAPEL — Trinity United Methodist Chancel Choir in Lapel will present its annual cantata at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in the sanctuary.

“Sing and Shout For Joy” is the title of this show filled with joyous music as well as quiet, reflective songs.

The musical includes favorite Christmas carols, praise choruses and some new songs.

The songs are connected by a narrative designed to renew and refresh the spirit of Christmas.

The musical is directed by Jeannine Terhune.

Accompanying the cantata will be Trinity’s regular accompanists: Rhonda Kuntz and Jim Hostetler, who will be joined by a small orchestra.

Special guests will be a children’s choir from the Trinity preschool.

The presentation will conclude with a candle lighting service.

Red Cross blood clinic approaching soon

PENDLETON — An American Red Cross blood drive is scheduled for 2 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at Fall Creek Christian Church, 1102 W. County Road 700S.

People who donate blood or platelets through Dec. 19 will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card via email. (Restrictions apply; see amazon.com/gc-legal. More information and details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/Together.)
