Frankton-Lapel district approved raises for educators, staff

LAPEL — Finalizing details of a master teachers contract and approving donations and coaching positions were some of the actions taken during a recent Frankton-Lapel Community Schools board meeting.

The board approved a master contract negotiated with Frankton-Lapel Education Association for the 2018-19 school year.

The agreement includes pay raises for teachers ranging from $400 to $1,200.

The board also approved a 1 percent increase for administrators and other district employees.

On the personnel front, the board approved the retirement of a longtime employee at Lapel High School.

Cheryl Hensley, the school’s family and consumer science teacher, will retire at the end of the 2018-19 school year after 42 years of service.

The following people were approved for extracurricular positions at Lapel Middle School: Mark Jones, sixth-grade boys basketball coach; Ken Knepp, eighth-grade girls basketball coach; Jordan Maxey, junior high wrestling coach; Cam Paddock, seventh-grade boys basketball coach; J.R. Smart, wrestling coach; and Jeremy Stow, seventh-grade girls basketball coach.

Lapel High School also submitted a list of men and women to work with area teens in extracurricular positions: Ron Buckner, assistant boys basketball coach; Justin Coomer, assistant boys basketball coach; Sean Kirby, assistant wrestling coach; Jimmy McDole, assistant girls basketball coach; Cameron Mendel, assistant girls basketball coach; Ashley Miller, winter guard director; and Zach Stilwell, assistant wrestling coach.

The board also accepted several donations from area organizations: American Legion Post 212, $100; attorney Thomas Beeman, $100; E&B Paving, $100; Nancy and George Likens, $25; Likens Outfitters LLC, $250; Optimist Club of Lapel, $400; Pennie Woodward of Pennies & Cents, $150.

Lapel Elementary School also received $1,125 from the Bulldog Pride Program.

Donations for Lapel High School were approved in the amount of: $2,800 from PulteGroup Inc./Indiana for construction/shop class; $6,600 for the Bulldog Partners, including Alford Orthodontics, $250; Central Indiana Orthopedics, $250; Community Physician Network Lapel, $400; Ford Street Church, $400; Gooding Brown & Co. Inc., $400; Jimmy McDole attorney at law, $400; Lapel American Legion, $400; Lapel Community Association, $400; Lapel Eagles 4323, $400; Lapel Optimist Club, $400; Manifold Refuse Inc., $250; Miller’s Autobody, $400; Myers Insurance & Real Estate LLC, $400; Nardco Heating, $400; Pendleton Family Dentistry, $250; Pennies & Cents, $400; Pleasant Valley Farm, $400; and Stanley Chevrolet, $400.
