Pendleton swimmers sink New Castle

NEW CASTLE — Pendleton Heights girls and boys swimming and diving teams dominated New Castle Jan. 15.

The girls took the win 143-38, while the boys won 124-55.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Maddie Oliver, Isabel Blosser, Allyson Simpson and Chloe Steinke won by 6 seconds versus second place, another Arabian team comprised of Alexis Sutton, Grace McKinney, Jaima Link and Allison Gentry.

Karly Riffey and Kaitlyn Wheetley finished first and second, respectively, in the individual medley, while Steinke won the 50 freestyle.

Diver Maddie Cougill won her first meet of the year.

Link, Emma Weflen and Allyson Simpson finished one, two and three in the 100 butterfly, and Catherine Dudley won the 100 freestyle by 7 seconds over teammate Steinke.

McKinney won the 500 freestyle by a margin of 8 seconds against a second-place New Castle swimmer.

Oliver took first in the 100 backstroke.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Weflen, Steinke, Williams and Dudley made up the winning team, and in the final relay of the night, the 400 freestyle, Lily Brooks, Weflen, Maggie Miller and Riffey took first.

In the boys medley relay, the team of Tanner Keesling, Oliver Claxon, Connor Dunn and Brayden Jones finished first.

Evan Fredericks won the 200 freestyle with teammate Robbie Courtney coming in second. Fredericks also won the 100 backstroke.

Keesling won the 200 individual medley, and Cameron Kordes paced the field in the 50 freestyle, with Jones finishing second. Cordes also took first in the 500 freestyle.

Cayden Sisson finished first in the 1-meter diving.

Cobb finished first in the 100 butterfly.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Cobb, Pyry Kurusaari, Fredericks and Kordes won first, and the same team won the 400 freestyle relay with Kordes swimming in lead position.

The Arabian girls swim in the sectional preliminaries Jan. 31 at Fishers High School, with the final rounds taking place Feb. 2.

The Arabian boys swim next at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at New Palestine.
