COLUMBUS — Pendleton Heights senior Cassie Zehr will culminate her high school gymnastics career in a fitting finish by competing in the IHSAA Indiana state gymnastics meet.

Zehr placed sixth or better in all events except for one at the Columbus East regional March 2 to earn the right to compete at Noblesville High School on Saturday, March 9.

This is a return trip for Zehr, but last year, she advanced in just one event, the floor exercise.

With a score of 9.350, Zehr placed fourth in the vault.

She scored a 9.4 in the floor exercise for fifth and an 8.775 for sixth on the balance beam.

Zehr accumulated 35.050 points to place sixth in the all-around.

All places of sixth or better qualify for state competition.

Because she placed in the all-around, Zehr will compete in all four events, with those scores tallied for the all-around scoring.

“I’m not planning on making any changes. I’m just going to try to work on hitting my routines with better form and more consistency,” Zehr said.

This is Zehr’s final meet of her high school career, and she plans on making the most of the experience.

“I’m really just hoping to have a good time and go out with a good attitude, regardless of how I end up placing,” Zehr said.

Opening ceremonies at Noblesville begin at 12:30 p.m.; the meet begins at 1 p.m. Admission is $10.

Madi Carpenter of Lapel competed Saturday in the Valparaiso regional, where she finished ninth on bars, 19th on vault, 24th on floor exercise and 25th on balance beam.
