LAPEL — Lapel Elementary School conducted its pre-kindergarten and kindergarten roundup for the 2019-20 school year on Thursday, March 21.

Parents and their children trickled in throughout the afternoon.

Adults completed paperwork while their children had a chance to color on paper rolled out along tables set up in the hallway near the front office.

LouAnn Mason, treasurer at Lapel Elementary School and one of several staff members who helped with the round-up, said several dozen children signed up that day.

People can sign up for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten at any time, however “it just helps us prepare when we have the event early,” she said.

South Madison ready for round-up

South Madison Community Schools has scheduled 2019-20 kindergarten roundups at district elementary schools.

• East Elementary School — 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 2. For more details, call 765-779-4445 or 765-649-6631.

• Pendleton Elementary Primary School — 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 3. For more details, call 765-778-2117, 765-642-2185 or 317-485-4759.

• Maple Ridge Elementary School — 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4. For more details, call 765-778-3818 or 317-485-4957.

To save time at round-up, people can begin registration at Fast Pass (closes March 29):

• East — eesreg.smcsc.com

• Pendleton — pespreg.smcsc.com

• Maple Ridge — mrereg.smcsc.com

Parents or guardians should bring the following to round-up:

• Children’s birth certificates (children must be 5 by Aug. 1, 2019)

• Two proofs of residency in the school district, such as a utility bill (electricity, gas water, phone, etc.) and a purchase agreement, mortgage statement, rental agreement or third-party affidavit

• Immunization record, doctor contact information and student medication information

• Emergency contact information

• Court records and/or a copy of any IEP, if applicable

• Driver’s license or government photo ID for parents/guardians

Applications for out-of-district or early entry students are available on the district website. Out-of-district students must apply and be accepted for enrollment in SMCSC.

Early entry (Date of birth Aug. 2, 2014, to Sept. 30, 2014) stuents must apply and be accepted for enrollment.

According to the district it is important children attend round-up. A kindergarten teacher will conduct a basic skills screener with each child.

People can participate in round-up at any South Madison school, but children will attend the elementary school assigned to a family’s home address.
