Bulldogs set personal records at Tipton

LAPEL — Several Lapel Bulldogs set many personal and season records at the Tipton Invitational Friday, April 26.

Lapel competed against Hamilton Heights, Maconaquah, McCutcheon, Mishawaka Marion (boys only), Tipton and Winchester Community. McCutcheon won the event with 170 points for the boys and 220 for the girls; Lapel boys finished seventh with 40 points, and the girls finished sixth with 25 points.

Jesse McCurdy and Noelle Loller set personal records in the 3,200 meters with second-place finishes; McCurdy crossed the line in 10:47.15, while Loller recorded a 13:08.51. Loller also finished second in the 1,600 with a personal record of 5:52.82.

For the boys, Brice Everitt took third in the 400, setting a personal record of 55.15; Jayden Laycock ran a PR time of 46.53 for fourth place in the 300 hurdles; Killian O’Connor was fifth in the 1,600 with his PR of 5:05.36; and Keegan Riffey finished ninth in the 800, recording a PR of 2:23.96.

In the 4×400 relay, the team of Everitt, Luke DesNoyers, Jakob Addington and Laycock finished third with a time of 3:47.87. The Bulldogs team of Tommy Manning, Riffey, McCurdy and O’Connor placed second in the 4×800 relay with a time of 9:04.46.

In the prelims for the 100 dash, Luke DesNoyers broke his personal record with a 12.07. He finished eighth in the finals.

Lapel athletes set other personal records in the event. Everitt recorded a PR in the 200. In the shot put, Jacob Bourke, Charlie Graybiel and Aiden Murdock all had their best career throws. Bourke also had a PR throw in the discus, as did Graybiel and Murdock.

For the girls, Paige Rich took fourth in the 800, setting a season record with her 2:38.38; Rich also finished fifth in the 400 in 1:06.53, a PR.

Others recording personal bests were Morgan Walsh and Josie Moore in the 100, Lucy Loller in the 800, and Taylor Grant, Paige Ormsby and Josie Moore in the shot put. Grant, Ormsby and Moore also set PRs in the discus.

Lauren Smith broke a personal season record in the 1,600.

The Bulldogs have one meet remaining before the sectionals. They travel to Sheridan May 7.
