Lapel softball drops two, wins one

TIPTON — Chloe Bouseman pitched a 7-5 win for Lapel on May 6 at Tipton.

Tipton is ranked fifth in Class 2A.

Addie Bailey went 2-for-4 and had four RBI and a double for the Bulldogs. Ashlynn Allman went 3-for-4 and added an RBI.

Lapel fell 3-2 on May 4 at Eastern Hancock and lost 8-4 at home May 1 against Madison-Grant. Allman hit a two-run homer for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs are 9-6 and were set to play host to Anderson on May 8 (after press time) and to Wapanhani today, Thursday, May 9. On Friday, May 10, they are set to play Knightstown at home, and on Saturday, May 11, they’re scheduled to play a doubleheader at Shenandoah.

Arabians win, loss move record to 14-3

CONNERSVILLE — The Pendleton Heights High School softball team defeated Connersville on April 30in a run rule-shortened win (13-3).

The next day the Arabians fell to New Palestine, the No. 1 team in Class 3A.

At Connersville, the Class 4A sixth-ranked Arabians downed the Spartans 13-2 on 15 hits and the pitching of Brinkley Epperson.

Epperson allowed the Spartans only four hits.

At the plate, Kieli Ryan went 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBI.

In the 4-1 loss to the Dragons, Chloe Closser scored the Arabians’ single run with a home run in the third inning.

Pitcher Jordan Benefiel had six strikeouts in the loss.

The Arabians are 14-3 and were to face Mt. Vernon Wednesday, May 8 (after press time), and Delta on Thursday, May 9. Pendleton Heights was to play host to Martinsville on Friday, May 10, and Lake Central on Saturday, May 11.

Lapel girls tennis nabs wins, a loss

LAPEL — The Lapel girls tennis team picked up two wins and a loss in recent matches.

The Bulldogs defeated Eastern Hancock 4-1 on May 6.

Bailey Baxter won in No. 1 singles versus Chelsi McMahan 7-6 (5), 6-0. Megan Sundheimer defeated Valentina Brooks in No. 3 singles 7-5, 7-5.

The No. 1 doubles team of Zoe Freer and Emily Eppert defeated Bella Witte and Chloe McCarty 6-1, 7-5.

At home against Knightstown, the Bulldogs won a rain-shortened match 3-0. Sundheimer defeated Alissa Compton 6-0, 6-0. Eppert and Freer defeated Brynlee Walters and Dani Davis in No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-0. Makayla McDole and Mariah Mason won at No. 2 doubles against Emma Waggoner and Claire Leakey 6-0, 6-2.

McDole and Chloe Renihan defeated Kalyn Edwards and Katie Brown 6-2, 6-7 (3) and 6-0.

Before the rains came, Baxter was up 6-0, 1-2 against Maggie Smith in No. 1 singles, and Julia Beeler was ahead of Ladaya Berrier 6-3, 3-0 in No. 2 singles.

The Bulldogs fell at Shenandoah April 30, 3-2.

Sundheimer won in No. 3 singles against Abby Rector 6-0, 6-3, and in No. 1 doubles, the team of Eppert and McDole defeated Carly Allen and Letha Wilson 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

The Bulldogs were set to play host to Tri High School on May 8 (after press time) and Warren Central on May 9. The Lapel Invitational is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. May 11.

The Bulldogs face off with Eastern Greentown, followed by Blackford versus New Castle. Consolation and final rounds will follow.

Arabians tennis falls to Westfield

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Heights girls tennis team lost at home May 6 to Westfield 5-0.

In an April 30 match at Frankton, the Arabians lost to the Eagles 4-1.

Abby Cruser, at No. 1 singles, was the lone win for the Arabians. Cruser dropped the first set 2-6 to Abby Williams but came back to win 6-3, 7-6 (6).

The Arabians stand at 2-11 (0-5, Hoosier Heritage Conference).

Next up are home matches with Elwood today, May 9, and with New Palestine May 10.

Arabians golfers pick up two wins

ELWOOD — With its lowest nine-hole round of the season, Pendleton Heights defeated Frankton 159-179 at Elwood Golf Links on Wednesday, May 1.

Austin Davis was low golfer for the Arabians with a 38. Tyler Patterson had his lowest round of the season with a 40, equaling the round of teammate Carter Ray. Wyatt Weaver was close behind with a round of 41.

The Arabians added a win on May 2, defeating visiting Shenandoah 168-187 at Fall Creek Golf Course.

In wet conditions, Davis topped the field with a nine-hole round of 39.

Lapel baseball’s season is even

LAPEL — A series of road games and a home contest for the Lapel baseball team brought its season record to 8-8.

The Bulldogs fell to visiting Cardinal Ritter May 6, split a May 4 doubleheader at Huntington North and lost at Guerin Catholic April 30.

In the 16-8 loss to Ritter, the Bulldogs had 12 hits for the game but couldn’t hold off the bats of the Raiders.

The Raiders held a 7-2 lead, but a six-run fifth inning mostly sealed the game for Ritter.

At Huntington North, Seth Baugh got the 7-1 win in Game 1, allowing just two hits and striking out 13.

The game was tied at one apiece when in the final at-bat, the Bulldogs scored six runs with RBI by David Rebenack, Caden Shirley, Parker Allman, Ryne Wheeler and Justin Engle.

In the second game, the Bulldogs got down 5-0 but answered with five runs. Despite those efforts, the Bulldogs fell short to the Vikings in a 9-7 loss.

In the 2-0 loss at Guerin, the Bulldogs had three hits for the game.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play host to a doubleheader against Knightstown on Saturday, May 11. Game 1 begins at 10 a.m.
