Sakeuh wins three events, Arabians second at sectional

PENDLETON — Patience Sakeuh won three events, including both hurdle races, and Pendleton Heights finished second behind Lawrence North at the Pendleton Heights Girls Track and Field Sectional on Tuesday, May 14.

Sakeuh won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.49 seconds. She also was victorious in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.64 seconds. Her blue-ribbon day continued by winning the long jump with a distance of 17 feet.

Katie Jones added another victory for the Arabians. In a 1-2 finish in the 3,200 run, Jones won in 12:08.90, finishing ahead of teammate Riley Hays (12:15.60).

The top three finishers in each event advanced to regional competition on May 21 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.

The Arabians scored 108.5 points. Lawrence North won with 154. Lapel finished 10th in the meet with 10 points.

The Bulldogs had one regional qualifier. By finishing third in the 800 run with a time of 2:28.21, Paige Rich moved on to the next round. Rich finished more than four seconds faster than her seeded time of 2:32.36, which was sixth best going into the meet.

Other Pendleton Heights participants finishing in the top three include Laney Ricker in the 1,600 run (third, 5:37.25) and all three relay teams.

The Arabians, with Sakeuh, Maddie Terrell, Emma Konkle and Kylea Lloyd, placed second in the 4×100 relay with a time of 51.69 seconds.

The 4×400 relay team and 4×800 relay team each finished in third place.

In the 1,600 relay, Bailey Pippin, Terrell, Delaney Busby and Lloyd finished in 4:20.48, nearly five seconds faster than their fourth-place seeded time.

In the distance relay, Ella Dixon, Hays, Madison McKee and Busby clocked in at 10:43.31.
