PENDLETON — The Main Street Pendleton Fourth at the Falls celebration is set for Thursday, July 4, near the Community Building in Falls Park — without a parade but with more games for children.

“This year we decided to focus our efforts on our event in the park,” Main Street Pendleton President Jack Wilson said.

An opening ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m.

From 5 to 8 p.m. there will be games and entertainment at a Family Fun Fair, which will be free of charge.

There will be more games than usual this year, Wilson said, along with a chance to give back to the community; organizers will accept cash and online free-will donations for the Teachers Fund for School Supplies, which is managed by the South Madison Community Foundation.

The fund will be “for the elementary schools, to help with some of the needs that come about during the year,” Wilson said.

A QR code will be on promotional material before and during the festival (including inside this week’s edition of The Times-Post), which people will be able to scan with their cell phones and be linked directly to Teachers Fund, where they can make a credit card or PayPal donation.

On the music front, Cliff Ritchey is scheduled to perform 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.; WEEM-FM, Pendleton Heights student radio, will DJ from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.; and The Walker Band is slated to perform from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Food vendors will be similar to previous years, including Kiwanis K-Burgers, Lion Club corn, Greek’s Pizza and Good’s ice cream.

Fireworks will begin at about 10 p.m. and will be simulcast by WEEM.

Wilson said attendance for the fireworks show has been growing in recent years, with the prime viewing spots being the Sports Complex, Falls Park between the Sports Complex and the Community Building, and nearby church and commercial parking lots.
