Society art show starts Friday

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Summer Art Show is scheduled for July 5 to 31 at Gallery 119, located at 119 W. State St.

A First Friday event is planned for 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 5, during which artwork will be on display. There will be hors d’oeuvres and a chance to meet artists.

Pat Kluesner will be the judge for the show, and the public will be invited to vote for People’s Choice Award.

Artist George Harris will have his art featured at the show during the month for public viewing.

Regular gallery hours are 11 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Lapel Village Fair coming up

LAPEL — The Lapel Village Fair is set for Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13.

Friday activities include yard sales, food and craft vendors, fish fry, hot-air balloon rides at Woodward Park and a street dance.

Saturday activities include a car show, parade, music night, chicken and noodle dinner and strawberry shortcake at Daybreak Church.

5K, color run set for July 13

PENDLETON — The second annual INCourage 5K & Color Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 13, in Falls Park.

The 5K course will start in Falls Park and wind through the natural trails of the 284-acre recreational area along Fall Creek.

There will also be a kids color run for ages 12 and under in addition to children’s activities during and after the race.

Race-day registration and packet pick-up begins at 8 a.m. The 5K begins at 9 a.m., and the Kids Fun Run starts at 10 a.m.

The 5K fee is $30, T-shirts cost $20, and there is no charge for the Kids Fun Run.

Event proceeds will help local families whose lives have been impacted by childhood cancer. Last year’s event raised almost $12,000.

Lions plan 5K run to benefit foundation

LAPEL — Lapel Lions Club is sponsoring a 5K run to benefit the CDLS (Cornelia DeLange Syndrome) Foundation.

The run will take place Saturday, July 13, starting at Lapel High School, 1850 S. County Road 900W, Lapel.

Registration is at 8 a.m., and the race begins at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $20, and a shirt (if desired) is $15.

People may register the morning of the race; no pre-registration is required.

This is a run formerly sponsored by Scott and Tammy Hersberger.

Library Friends meeting coming up

PENDLETON — Friends of the Pendleton Community Library’s quarterly meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 18 in the Community Room of the library, 595 E. Water St.

Friends is a volunteer group that helps with events at the library and in the community such as Reading Friends, Lucky Duck Races and a gingerbread contest.

It also provides funds and volunteers for library activities such as Mornings with Mommy, Donuts with Daddy and summer reading programs for all ages.

The public is welcomed to attend.

PHHS Class of 1974 reunion in works

PENDLETON — A Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1974 reunion is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Edgewood Country Club.

The cost of $35 per person includes dinner and music with Jim Noggle as DJ.

Those interested in attending who did not graduate in 1974 are welcome.

Park concert series continues July 28

PENDLETON — The Sara Howe Trio will perform a concert July 28 in Falls Park as part of the 2019 Concerts in the Park series.

The concert will take place near the park gazebo. There is no admission charge, and refreshments will be available.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own chairs.

The series is sponsored by Pendleton Lions Club.

Pendleton Heights High School Marching Band and Madison County Band Directors are scheduled for Aug. 25.

Elementary school plans registration

LAPEL — Lapel Elementary School new student registration is planned for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 30 to Aug. 1 (closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.).

Students new to the school district should come during this time to register.

New students are required to show proof of residency when enrolling.

Incoming kindergarten students must show proof of residency, along with a copy of a birth certificate and current shot record.

Current students should mail their payment after July 22 to Lapel Elementary School, 2865 S. State Road 13, Lapel, IN 40651.

Fitness program starts Aug. 5

PENDLETON — EnhanceFitness, a 16-week arthritis management and fall prevention program, will start Aug. 5 at Pendleton YMCA, 520 Falls Park Drive.

This program meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Fridays.

Library Friends duck adoption begins

PENDLETON — Friends of the Pendleton Community Library is adopting out rubber ducks for the sixth annual Lucky Duck Races.

Duck adoption booths will appear around town. The cost to adopt a duck is $5, which will designate a racing numbered duck with a person’s name on it. First-, second- and third-place prize packages will be awarded with values of $150, $100 and $75, respectively.

Through the end of August, people also can stop by the circulation desk at the library, 595 E. Water St., to adopt a duck during regular business hours.
