Board approves cyber insurance coverage

PENDLETON — South Madison Community School Corp. approved the purchase of additional insurance for its computer systems, including coverage for incidents such as ransomware attacks.

Business Manager Ken McCarty reported to the board at the July 11 meeting that after looking into the issue for the past year it became apparent there was a need to acquire cyber insurance coverage.

The corporation is using Chubb Insurance for the added coverage.

Cyber insurance protects business and individual users from internet-based risks, such as hacking, data destruction, extortion and theft.

“We examined our coverage and looked into options that we felt would be more appropriate,” McCarty said.
