Travel team wins World Series

SOUTH MADISON COUNTY — The Indiana Phoenix 14U travel softball team, based out of Madison County and coached by Jeremy Pattengale and Andrew Shelton, won the 14U A/B bracket at the USFA Panama City Beach World Series recently.

The team went undefeated during bracket play against top teams from Tennessee, Illinois and Texas on Saturday, July 13.

The Phoenix defeated the Mattoon Cobras 6-3 in the championship game. Tied 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning, Jilyian Hilderbrand singled on a fly ball to left field, allowing Jordan Tracy to score. Bo Shelton followed this up with a double to center field, driving in Cali Pattengale and Jilyian Hilderbrand. Eliza Findlay and Krystin Davis teamed up on the pitcher’s mound, giving up five hits across seven innings.

Highlights from the week included two homeruns (Findlay, Cross) and 30 RBI.
