LAPEL — In Coach Dylan Crosley’s first year as head coach at Lapel last season, the girls golf team won the Madison County title and placed second in the sectional.

Two Bulldogs from that squad return to lead the team this year.

Senior captain Lauren Lutz and sophomore Chloe Renihan are the center of Lapel’s experience for the new competition year.

“I expect Lauren to be Lauren and go out and compete and have fun. She’ll have a great senior season,” Crosley said.

Three freshmen join the team this year. Kerith Renihan, Grace Martin and Macy Beeson may be new to the Bulldogs, but all three played in middle school and throughout the summer in tournaments.

“I expect a fun year and good things from this group of freshmen,” Crosley said.

“My goal for this season is like last season. I think we can win county again and make it out of sectional,” Crosley said.

Along with the competition goals, Crosley is looking forward to the girls enjoying every bit of the season.

“I’m excited to coach this young group of ladies. It should be fun.”

While the Bulldogs enjoyed taking the Madison County title last year, repeating can be a challenge.

“County will be tough. Pendleton has a good team, and I expect them to be right up there with us. It should make for an exciting tournament,” Crosley said.

He said his team is really gunning to bring the championship to Lapel again. The Madison County tournament is Aug. 24 in Elwood.

Playing in invitationals is another way to measure where the Bulldogs stand.

On Aug. 6, they competed in the Hamilton Southeastern Invitational, and on Aug. 10 they play in the Kokomo Invitational. The Bulldogs play host to their own invite Aug. 17.

As the season progresses, Crosley wants to see a continuing improvement in scores and a growth in confidence to go along with the fun of competition.
