Mental health fair coming up

PENDLETON — Several Madison County organizations will have joined together to conduct “Madison County Cares — A Mental Health and Community Resource Fair” from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2, at Pendleton Heights High School.

In addition to community resources vendors, there will be break-out sessions for parents. This will provide families with an opportunity to explore topics of interest regarding mental health and addiction.

“Our goal is to help destigmatize mental health,” said Wendy Cook, relationship coordinator at Intersect Inc., a coalition of community members representing schools, health care, faith-based organizations that addresses tobacco, alcohol and other drug issues in Madison County.

“We would like to see an increase in mental health and addiction referrals while providing a safe and friendly environment for families. Our hope is that families will learn more about the mental health, addiction and community resources in our area.”

Intersect is sponsoring the fair along with South Madison Community School Corp., Drug Free South Madison County Coalition, and Madison County Mental Health and Additions Coalition.

Breakout sessions will include “The Brain and Building Resilience: Strategies for Youth and Families,” “Cyber Bullying” and “What Teens Nees: Nutrition and Health.”
