Art classes planned at Gallery 119

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society offers art classes at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St. in Pendleton.

• Oil Painting with Katy Burke — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 (with a break for lunch). Class will paint “Ceramic Pot with a Pansy Bouquet and A Tea.” Fee is $55 with everything provided ($45 for those who use their own paint and brushes).

• Oil Painting with Gini Deaton — 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13. Deaton will teach using alla prima oil technique to paint a l horse, titled “Painted Pony,” on a textured canvas. Cost is $60 and includes all supplies.

• Watercolor with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 (with a break for lunch). Participants will learn to turn a regular watercolor into a three-dimensional piece of art. Cost for the class is $50. Participants should bring their own watercolor supplies and a 300lb paper.

• Jewelry Class using Textured Gem Stones with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. Students will learn to set stones and about textures that can be included in designs; they will be cutting, soldering, texturing and setting cabochon stones. The pieces are small; students are asked to bring a magnifying visor (available online for about $5) or bring a cheap pair of reading glasses. Class fee is $55 and includes supplies and other tools.

Town candidates forum set for Oct. 3

PENDLETON — Pendleton Community Public Library will play host to a Pendleton Town Council candidates forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.

Dr. Michael Sparks will be the moderator.

Sparks has served in higher education for 20 years in colleges in Indiana and Illinois. He has taught history, political science, personal law and other social sciences.

The library is located at 595 E. Water St.

The candidates include: District 5 At-Large, Shane Davis (Republican, incumbent) and Lisa A. Floyd (Democrat); District 1, Chet Babb (Democrat, incumbent) and Michelle Skeen (Republican); District 2, Jessica S. Bastin (Republican, incumbent) and Steve Denny (Democrat).

Sons of AMVETS plan breakfast

PENDLETON — Sons of AMVETS plan an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at AMVETS Post No 26, 939 S. Broadway St., Pendleton.

The buffet breakfast includes biscuits and gravy, hash browns, french toast, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs or eggs made to order, and coffee, milk or juice.

The cost is $8 per person.

The post is a smoking facility. People younger than 18 are not allowed in the building.

Ovid Community Church plans auction

OVID — Ovid Community Church will conduct a benefit auction at the church at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 to raise funds for 2020 mission trips.

The church will send mission teams to the Philippines and Ecuador and wants to extend an opportunity to the South Madison community to assist in this outreach.

The auctioneer will be Charlie Miller with Alvin Cave Auction and Realty.

Sale items include a fishing boat and trailer, a camper, household goods, furniture, tools, lawn and garden equipment, glassware, electronics, donated items from local artisans, and gift certificates from local businesses.

Items are being added daily and may be donated by calling the church office at 765-642-0551, or by contacting Mark Matlock at 765-621-2413.

Food will be available on the grounds during the auction.

The church is located at 793 E. County Road 600S in Ovid (New Columbus).

Trunk or Treat planned for park

MARKLEVILLE — A trunk or treat is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Markleville Community Park, 2649 E. State Road 38.

The event is open to the public. People are welcome to decorate their trunks and pass out treats.

There will be hay rides and games, with hot dogs provided by Phi Psi Sisters, drinks provided by East Christian church and donuts provided by Markleville Police Department.

A trunk decorating contest is set for 6:30 p.m., with prizes for Most Creative, Scariest and Funniest.

A costume contest is planned for 7 p.m. with four age groups: 0-6, 7-12, 13-17, and 18 and up.

There will be one winner from each age group for each category — Most Creative, Scariest and Most Original — as well as an overall Best Costume award.

Charity Gobble Wobble 5K set

PENDLETON — The seventh annual YMCA of Madison County Charity Gobble Wobble is scheduled for Nov. 28, beginning at the YMCA in Pendleton.

This 5K walk/run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving.

Strollers and wagons are welcome.

Registration proceeds benefit the YMCA of Madison County Annual Support Campaign, which provides scholarships to families in need.

All pre-registrations before Nov. 10 will receive a dry-wick race day shirt, race bib and sponsor grab bag.

Costs are 5 and younger, free; 6 and older pre-registration, $30; and 6 and older same-day registration, $40.
