Event offers medication disposal

MADISON COUNTY — National Rx Take-Back Day is Saturday, Oct. 26, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day, Madison County residents will be able to safely dispose of unused, expired and unwanted medications (except sharps, liquids or gels) at many area sites.

South Madison County drop-off locations for medications are:

• Pendleton Police Department, 550 N. Pendleton Ave., Pendleton

• Lapel Police Department, 720 Ford St., Lapel

• Markleville Police Department, 10 S. State St., Markleville

• Indiana State Police Post 51, 9022 S. State Road 67, Pendleton

Anderson, Chesterfield, Edgewood and Elwood police departments also are participating.

Madison County Sheriff’s Department will take calls to pick up prescription medications for residents who live outside the police districts listed.

Trunk or Treat planned for park

MARKLEVILLE — A trunk or treat is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Markleville Community Park, 2649 E. State Road 38.

The event is open to the public. People are welcome to decorate their trunks and pass out treats.

There will be hay rides and games, with hot dogs provided by Phi Psi Sisters, drinks provided by East Christian Church and donuts provided by Markleville Police Department.

A trunk decorating contest is set for 6:30 p.m., with prizes for Most Creative, Scariest and Funniest.

A costume contest is planned for 7 p.m. with four age groups: 0-6, 7-12, 13-17, and 18 and up.

There will be one winner from each age group for each category — Most Creative, Scariest and Most Original — as well as an overall Best Costume award.

Art classes planned at Gallery 119

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society offers art classes at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St. in Pendleton.

• Jewelry Class using Textured Gem Stones with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. Students will learn to set stones and about textures that can be included in designs; they will be cutting, soldering, texturing and setting cabochon stones. The pieces are small; students are asked to bring a magnifying visor (available online for about $5) or bring a cheap pair of reading glasses. Class fee is $55 and includes supplies and other tools.

Charity Gobble Wobble 5K set

PENDLETON — The seventh annual YMCA of Madison County Charity Gobble Wobble is scheduled for Nov. 28, beginning at the YMCA in Pendleton.

This 5K walk/run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving.

Strollers and wagons are welcome.

Registration proceeds benefit the YMCA of Madison County Annual Support Campaign, which provides scholarships to families in need.

All pre-registrations before Nov. 10 will receive a dry-wick race day shirt, race bib and sponsor grab bag.

Costs are 5 and younger, free; 6 and older pre-registration, $30; and 6 and older same-day registration, $40.

Park survey to help with planning

PENDLETON — Pendleton-Fall Creek Township Parks and Recreation Board seeks public input for its five-year parks and recreation master plan update.

A survey is available online at fallspark.org until Nov. 1; select “Take Survey.” It allows residents to let the board, steering committee and staff understand how they would like to see the park system evolve over the next five to 10 years.

The park plan update is a partnership project between the parks department and Pendleton’s planning department.

Blood drive coming to Lapel High School

LAPEL — A Red Cross blood drive is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at Lapel High School, 1850 S. County Road 900W.

Donors of all blood types, especially platelet donors and those with Type O blood, are needed to ensure a stable supply for cancer patients and others this fall.

Appointments can be made by downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 800-733-2767 or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

People who donate blood or platelets in October will be entered for a chance to win one of five $500 gift cards redeemable at hundreds of merchants, courtesy of Tango Card (terms apply; see rcblood.org/game).
