Clinic site is a bad choice

Attention Pendleton and all Madison County: This is a public awareness announcement. The City of Anderson has voted 6-2 against the extreme opposition of the local area’s residents to place a 100-bed high-intensity mens-only rehab and detox clinic in our backyard.

The proposed facility is being planned near 67th Street and Ridgeview Road.

Many concerns of a clinic of this magnitude have been raised with no clear planning for the potential harm to the surrounding areas.

This property is on a South Madison Community Schools bus route and will impact more than 200 homes and properties in the immediate area surrounding the clinic. It is less than a mile from Erskine Elementary School.

This is now going to the Anderson Board of Zoning Appeals, where we will continue to fight to save our community and property values.

Be very alarmed at how the voices of the public have no say in the action of our elected officials. We hope for your support, and that you join us for one of the biggest battles that Madison County has ever seen, to protect the safety of our families and the values of our properties.

We need to start fighting this epidemic a different way than just building more and bigger clinics to put a bandage on a problem that is bleeding our communities and society.

It is not going to just stop here. It’s coming to a neighborhood near you.

Stand and fight with us in our battle. We are not fighting the clinic and recognize a clinic is needed in Madison County; we are against where they are putting the clinic.

The next step in this neighborhood battle is with the City of Anderson Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 8 in the City Hall Auditorium, 120 E. Eighth St., Anderson.

The neighbors ask for the Pendleton community’s support at the BZA meeting.

This battle has required quite a bit of expert and legal support. The neighbors are raising money at GoFundMe.com; search for “Save our Neighborhood” (Founder Jesse Scott), or go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/1ug6uu7h80. Any monetary assistance would be appreciated.

If you would like any additional information, you can email me at [email protected].

See you Jan. 8!
