PH girls place at state wrestling meet

KOKOMO — Pendleton Heights’ Sarah Dix and Jarah Quiroga placed at the Indiana High School Girls Wrestling State Finals on Friday at Kokomo High School’s Memorial Gymnasium.

After a close first-round loss by decision, Dix battled back to earn a fifth-place finish in the 126-pound weight class.

Dix lost 3-1 to Delta’s Anna Krejsa in the quarterfinals before recording two wins by fall. In her opening consolation round match, Dix pinned Mishawaka Penn’s Sydney Domal in 1:48. She made quick work of Penn’s Seliesh Ngugi in the fifth-place match, recording a pin in just 42 seconds.

In the 170-pound weight class, Quiroga placed seventh. She lost 6-2 to New Haven’s Alex Martz in the quarterfinals. She was pinned in 1:44 by Seymour’s Kate Snook in her opening consolation round match.

In the battle for seventh, Quiroga won by fall over Penn’s Madison Hazeltine in 45 seconds.
