Sheriff’s association offers scholarships

ANDERSON — Indiana Sheriffs’ Association is offering college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies.

There will be about 40 scholarships of $750 awarded to qualifying students statewide.

Indiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship Fund was established for the purpose of receiving, investing and dispensing funds to provide college scholarships to students committed to pursuing an education and career in law enforcement.

To qualify, an applicant must be an Indiana resident, be a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association, attend an Indiana college or university, major in a law enforcement field and enroll as a full-time student (12 hours).

Applications can be obtained from high school counselors or downloaded at indianasheriffs.org.

Gallery Winter Art Show coming up

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans its Winter Art Show from Feb. 7 to March 4 at Gallery 119.

A First Friday event is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 7, during which visitors will have a chance to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, see the show, meet the artists and vote for their favorite artwork for a People’s Choice award.

Artwork by Gini Deaton will be featured during the show.

The show is being sponsored by Tim and Julie Schnepp, Remax/Legacy.

Judge for the show will be Myron Cochran, a photography and jewelry teacher at Pike High School in Indianapolis.

Gallery 119 is located in downtown Pendleton at 119 W. State St. Regular business hours are 11 to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.

Art classes planned at Gallery 119

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society offers art classes at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St. in Pendleton.

• Palette Knife Oil Painting with Patrick Kluesner — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8. Kluesner will teach the basics of using a palette knife to paint “Roses in a Glass Vase.” Participants must bring their own oil paints and several palette knives (see supply list online at website below). Fee is $40.

• Beginner Watercolor Class with Judy Crist — 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16. This is a beginner watercolor class with all supplies provided. Crist will show the basics in a two-hour class designed to let participants try watercolors before they go to the expense of purchasing supplies. Class fee is $35. Take home a finished piece of art of a colorful “Red Bird.”

• All-Day Watercolor Class with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 (with a break for lunch). Participants will paint a young girl on a beach. Cost for the class is $50. People should bring their own watercolor supplies and a 300-pound paper.

Lapel show choir, jazz band to perform

LAPEL — The annual Lapel Show Choir and Jazz Band Cabaret is set for Friday, Feb. 28.

Tickets cost $15 and go on sale Friday, Feb. 7.

Tickets can be purchased from any Jazz Band or Show Choir member, or by contacting Lapel High School Music Department at 765-534-3036, ext. 5115.

The cabaret benefits humanitarian causes.
