Arabians fall prey to Tigers

PENDLETON — There was no love on the court as Pendleton Heights suffered its fourth loss in a row to visiting Fishers (66-47) on Feb. 14.

Despite 19 points pumped in by Arabians leading scorer Jamison Dunham and 13 by senior Tristan Ross, the Arabians could not match the offensive show by the Tigers, who shot almost 75% in the first half and 57% for the game.

“I thought we showed some fight at times,” coach Kevin Bates said.

He said the physicality of the Tigers was too much the Arabians.

“Our kids are trying, but when it happens for 13 games we’ve just got to get better defensively.

“Tristan has been playing hard all year long, and Carter (Aldredge) did a good job coming in and helping him,” Bates said. “He’s been competing and fighting and has done a lot of good things this year.”

Ethan Ross played out of his regular position and moved into the power forward slot. “When you play these bigger, stronger, physical teams it’s hard for Tristan to score.”

Tristan Ross had to fight off being double-teamed for the night.

The Arabians kept close until late in the first half, when Fishers went on a scoring run that ended with the Tigers taking a 35-24 lead at the close of the half. A single-digit third quarter for Pendleton made a fourth-quarter run even more difficult.

Although the Arabian scoring didn’t fair as well in the third quarter, Bates said the team played better but gave the ground back to Fishers in the final period.

“We’re night and day and have got to limit that,” Bates said.

After a home game Feb. 18 with Hoosier Heritage Conference foe, New Castle, the Arabians go on the road for their final two games of the regular season. However, they will have a tough path with 2A No. 2-ranked Shenandoah. The Raiders have lost only two games this season and are shooting 58% as a team.

With only a few games left until sectional, Bates said the Arabians have the time to improve to where they’ll be competitive post-season.
