LAPEL — Lapel High School played host to the Madison County Choral Festival Monday.

“It was wonderful, it was just wonderful,” said Jeannine Terhune, Lapel High School choir director and host director for the event.

Festival director Lamonte Kuskye “was a huge hit,” Terhune said.

“He’s really a wonderful musician, and I guess, more importantly, he really connected with the kids.”

About 300 high school choir members from Alexandria, Frankton, Elwood, Madison-Grant, Pendleton Heights and Lapel practiced during the day and performed an evening concert that included contemporary gospel-style music, a patriotic medley, Latin music and dance, and more.

Kuskye is choral director, music coordinator and musical theater instructor at Park Tudor School in Indianapolis. He serves as music director at Pendleton First United Methodist Church.

Other guests, including soloist Don Farrell — who sang Frank Sinatra songs — were also great, she said.

“It was a really good mix of music,” Terhune said. “The variety was really good. The kids had a great time.”
