WASHINGTON, D.C. — The office of Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks is seeking artwork submissions from high school students in the Fifth District of Indiana for the annual Congressional Art Competition.

Participants will have a chance to have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.

“This year’s Congressional Art Competition provides aspiring artists with a unique opportunity to highlight Hoosier heritage and history on a national stage, and I want to encourage students to take advantage of the chance to showcase not only their artistic skill, but their love for their home state,” Brooks said in a press release.

“When I’m in Washington, I walk by the artwork from the Congressional Art Competition on my way to vote on the House floor, and always enjoy seeing the winning representative of the Fifth District hanging for everyone to see. We have so many talented young people in Indiana, and across the nation, and I can’t wait to see the new and exciting pieces submitted this year.”

The 5th District includes Grant, Madison, Tipton and Hamilton counties and part of Blackford, Marion, Boone and Howard counties.

Artwork eligible for consideration must be two dimensional, no larger than 26 by 26-by 4 inches (including frame), weigh less than 15 pounds, and be original in concept, design and execution.

The winner’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.

The deadline to submit entries this year is 5 p.m. Friday, April 17.

COVID-19 has changed the original submission process. For details about how to submit a piece, contact Autumn Meeker at 765-640-5115 or [email protected].

The competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.

Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
