Lapel food pantry alters service

LAPEL — Lapel Community Food Pantry, 1321 N. Main St., Lapel, has changed its method of distributing food to clients.

Through the current period of COVID-19-related isolation restrictions, the panty will offer pre-packed sacks or boxes of food items to eligible individuals and families on a weekly basis.

The pantry serves Stony Creek, Jackson and Green townships in Madison County.

Clients may visit for food once per week.

The hours for this drive-thru program will be 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Volunteers will be on site to direct clients through the line, and volunteers will bring distributions to the car. People are asked to remain in their vehicles.

With increased need, each car can receive only one weekly distribution.

Clients are asked to bring picture ID and proof of address (utility or phone bill, if current address differs from information on ID).

For more information, visit the Lapel Community Food Pantry Facebook page and leave questions in the comments.

Art competition deadline extended

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The office of Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks is seeking artwork submissions from high school students in the Fifth District of Indiana for the annual Congressional Art Competition.

The deadline for submissions has been extended to May 21 because of coronavirus.

“My staff and I also request the art work be submitted digitally in order to continue the social-distancing policy and prevent unnecessary trips outside your homes,” Brooks said in an April 8 press release.

Participants will have a chance to have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.

The 5th District includes Grant, Madison, Tipton and Hamilton counties and part of Blackford, Marion, Boone and Howard counties.

For more details on the competition, visit https://susanwbrooks.house.gov/services/art-competition or contact Autumn Meeker at 765-640-5115 or [email protected].

The competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.

Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
