Ingalls passing on hand sanitizer to first responders

INGALLS — The Town of Ingalls is lending a helping hand to make sure some very important hands stay clean.

In association with Oakley Brothers Distillery in Anderson, the town donated some hand sanitizer and other essentials to the Indiana State Police Pendleton District (51) as well as supplies to its local department.

On Thursday, the town picked up one gallon of hand sanitizer, made at the Anderson distillery — which is producing the sanitizer at its own cost — and dropped it off at the local state police post, located off State Road 67.

Ingalls town council president Scot Lawyer said the town shared some hand sanitizer it had received from Oakley’s as well as some sanitizing wipes.

Sgt. John D. Bowling, public information officer for Indiana State Police District No. 51, said Oakley Brothers donated hand sanitizer about three weeks ago, but the department ran through the contribution in about two weeks.

“The Pendleton District wishes to graciously thank the Oakley Brothers Distillery for their generous donation of hand sanitizer,” Bowling said. “Their donation undoubtedly helped to keep troopers safe as they served the citizens of Indiana the past few weeks.

Bowling said the Ingalls contribution was done without much fanfare and the department was grateful for the voluntary contribution.

“The donation of hand sanitizer, wipes and gloves from the Town of Ingalls was much appreciated,” Bowling said.

Ingalls police chief Chris Thompson gave the locally stationed state officers 2,000 pair of Latex gloves. The Ingalls department had recently received a donation of 4,000 Latex gloves from Kim Moore of Individual Support Services.

“It was a good day on that front,” Lawyer said of the town’s contributions. “I felt like we did something positive and it just fell into place perfectly.”

Schools update

With the recent orders from Governor Eric Holcomb to close schools for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, area schools are adjusting schedules to meet requirements that include eLearning days and waiver days.

In March, Holcomb granted schools ability to waive 20 days of missed classes.

For Frankton-Lapel Community Schools, eLearning days, beginning with the week of April 13 will be on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, with waiver days taking place on Tuesday and Thursday.

May 15 will be the final eLearning day with May 18 being the last day to turn in assignments.

The period of returning Chromebooks and cleaning out lockers is scheduled from May 19-22.

The district will provide lunch to students during the closure from 11 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Thursdays through May 21. Each sack has three days of breakfast and three days of lunch.

To pick up a sack lunch parents and/or guardians will need to complete the sack lunch pick-up form, which can be accessed on the school system’s website at flcs.k12.in.us.

South Madison Community Schools sent out an email to parents on how it will operate the remainder of the school year.

SMCSC eLearning days will continue to be Wednesdays through Fridays for the remainder of the school year.

To end the school year before Memorial Day, the last week of school will have four eLearning days, Tuesday, May 19, to Friday, May 22, which will be the final day of the school year.

For Pendleton Heights’ seniors, following the participation and completion of 160 days of instruction, students will be awarded an A-plus for classes they are enrolled in during the fourth quarter.

The second-semester grades will be calculated by averaging third and fourth quarter grades and no final exams will be given for second semester.

By executive order of the governor and state superintendent, all seniors, who were on track to graduate, and enrolled in the classes needed to graduate, will earn a diploma.

For grades 1-11, students will be awarded either an A-plus or F for classes enrolled in for the fourth quarter. They will also not have a final exam for second semester and will have grades averaged for third and fourth quarters.

Kindergarten students will be awarded mastery levels on select standards based on the high priority standards.

South Madison has not made a decision on commencement nor the return of Chromebooks and other district-owned materials.

The school systems kindergarten Round-Up and Blast Off have been postponed.

Spring registration for next school year has started. Registration for students can be done online at www.arabiangrades.com.
