The deflation virus

The following story is written by a student in Kandi Martin’s fifth-grade class at Lapel Elementary School. “Students were to choose an object(s) from home and write a fiction piece about them in quarantine for some disease, “ Martin said. “Some chose the obvious, COVID-19, others chose to create a disease of their own.”

There once was a basketball named Frank Kwirk. He lived in a time when there was a virus going around. The name of the virus was the Deflation virus. When a ball had the Deflation virus, it would lose air until it died. Frank caught the virus on February 5, 2020.

Day 1

He was in the garage when he started to feel light-headed. His leather started to turn yellow. He got tested, and was positive for the deflation virus. DUN-DUN-DUUUUN.

Day 2

The doctor recommended that he get to an air pump. The doctor also said that he has four days to live unless he gets more air. He started to move around the garage looking for an air pump, but he couldn’t find one. He became very somber.

Day 3

He has started to lose a lot of speed when rolling and bouncing. He is very flat at this point. When searching for an air pump, he heard the car start. Then it pulled out of the garage. He couldn’t move very fast, so his yellow side scraped the tire. He was sick at heart from almost getting run over.

Day 4

With scarcely any air left in him, he crept up to the corner of the garage. Finally he spotted the beloved air pump. Dragging himself, and with his last ounce of energy, he attached to the pump. He had conquered the Deflation virus.
