South Madison Visual Arts Exhibit coming

PENDLETON — South Madison Visual Arts Exhibit is coming up at Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119, located at 119 W. State St., Pendleton.

The exhibit is for residents of Fall Creek, Stony Creek, Adams or Green townships.

Diane Burrell will be judge for the opening event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at the gallery. The public is welcome. Awards will include: first place, $250; second place, $150; and third place, $100.

The show will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays through Sept 30.

This exhibit is made possible through South Madison Community Foundation Arts Fund.

The fund was established by the children of Robert E. and Vinetta A Wills, in honor of their mother, Vinetta Aiman Wills, and is hosted by the local Tri Kappa chapter.

The purpose of the fund is to recognize people with artistic talent through monetary reward and public recognition.

The fund has offered monetary awards to winners of the Pendleton Heights High School Senior Art Show for the past 16 years.

Gallery 119 offers art class

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society Gallery 119 is offering art classes with a limited number of students. The next scheduled class is:

Oil Painting Bob Ross Style — 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. Participants will paint in oil with Gini Deaton in the style of Bob Ross. Painting “Falls in the Glen,” students will learn to use a palette knife to do mountains and a fan brush to paint trees and more. Class cost is $50 and includes supplies needed for the painting. Students are asked to bring paper towel. All levels of painter are welcome.

The class will be at the gallery, 119 W. State St., Pendleton.

Class sizes are limited with social distancing.

Lucky Duck race will be a dry run

PENDLETON — The Friends of the Pendleton Community Library Lucky Duck Race will take place virtually this year with a random drawing to determine winners.

The Lucky Duck event, which helps support programs at Pendleton Community Public Library, raises funds through $5 entries sold at the library, 595 E. Water St., and a few local businesses.

In prior years, donations came with a rubber duck used in a race in Fall Creek.

This year, Lucky Duck winners will be announced Sept. 14. Prizes include cash awards of $150, $100 and $75.

A random selection from sponsor entries will determine who will name the Lucky Duck mascot.

Fishing Derby coming up

PENDLETON — Pendleton Lions Club’s fishing derby is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, at the lighthouse pond in Falls Park.

Fishing starts at 8:30 a.m. for 2- to 8-year-olds. Fishing starts at 9:30 a.m. for 9- to 13-year-olds.

There will be awards for biggest fish and most fish for each age group.

Museum will not open this year

PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum is not opening this year because of coronavirus.
