Beeson wins sectional crown; Bulldogs, PH’s Wiggins advance to regional

NOBLESVILLE — Lapel sophomore Macy Beeson dominated the field, but she is not the only Bulldog moving on from Monday’s Noblesville Girls Golf Sectional at Harbour Trees Golf Club.

Beeson shot a two-under-par 69, 10 strokes better than her closest competitors. Second-place finishers Sarah Brenneman of Noblesville and Amber Luttrell of Hamilton Southeastern both carded 79s.

Lapel shot a team score of 354 to take the third and final spot into Saturday’s Lapel Regional, to be played on the Bulldogs’ home course, Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson.

The top three teams and top three individuals not on the top three teams qualified for Saturday’s tournament.

For Lapel, Chloe Renihan shot an 85, followed by teammates Sierra Campbell (95), Kerith Renihan (105) and Grace Martin (108). Chloe Renihan tied for 10th overall.

Pendleton Heights placed sixth, but Grace Wiggins was able to take the final individual transferring spot with a round of 95. Sydni Zebrauskas of Hamilton Heights (81) and Lilly McVay of Fishers (82) also advanced.

Hamilton Southeastern won the event with a round of 325, seven strokes ahead of second-place Noblesville (332). Lapel’s 354 was well ahead of fourth-place Hamilton Heights, which finished with a 376.

Fishers was fifth with a 382. The Arabians followed with a 404. Eleven schools were represented at the event.

For Pendleton Heights, after Wiggins, Kaylee McKenney finished with a 96. Kaitlyn Shamblin shot a 106. Ashley McKenney carded a 107, and Ryann Norris had a 116.

Teams and individuals from six sectionals (Greensburg, Cathedral, Muncie Central, New Palestine, Noblesville and Union County) will compete at Saturday’s regional round.

The top three teams and top five individuals not associated with the top three teams will advance from the regional to the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s Girls Golf State Finals scheduled to for Oct. 2-3 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

At last year’s regional, Lapel edged out Heritage Christian by one stroke (325-226) to earn its first-ever bid into the state finals. The Bulldogs placed 13th at state.
