PENDLETON — You could argue that no team needed a win on Friday more than Pendleton Heights.

And it got it during its final regular-season home game at John Broughton Field.

The Arabians led from start to finish, defeating Yorktown 38-7. The Arabians were up 21-0 at the half and led 38-0 into the fourth quarter.

Luke Candiano threw for three touchdowns and 134 yards in the win. Running back Caden McClain had two touchdowns and 46 rushing yards.

Receiver Tyler McKinley caught seven passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Marvin Jones had a touchdown reception on two catches for 30 yards.

The Pendleton Heights defense had 10 tackles for losses. Luke Bays had team-best 13 stops. Connor Huffman had 2.5 tackles for loss, including one of the Arabians three sacks. He also caused a fumble.

The Arabians had lost three straight games prior to the outing.

Against two-time defending Class 5A state champion New Palestine, the Arabians led in the first half and were down just three points in the fourth quarter before losing 13-3.

On Homecoming against rival and Class 4A’s top-ranked team, Mt. Vernon, Pendleton Heights led most of the game and late in the fourth-quarter before having its upset-bid squashed, 27-21. The Marauders scored 20 fourth-quarter points.

Two weeks ago against Delta, the Arabians led 21-14 at the half, but were unable to score in the second half and the Eagles came back to win 28-21.

The Arabians hope to build momentum this week during Friday’s final regular-season game.

Pendleton Heights travels to winless Shelbyville. The Golden Bears are 0-8 on the season. They were 0-10 last season, losing twice to the Arabians. Pendleton Heights won last year’s regular-season game 55-8, then beat Shelbyville in the first round of the sectional, 54-6.
